New dive sites are being discovered all the time, but the island still retains its innocence. Zanzibar steeped in history and rich in cultural heritage is characterised by a labyrinth of narrow streets, busy bazaars, grand merchant houses and intricately carved doors. Mafia and its surrounding forests and islands are now within the protected Mafia Island Marine Park. The crystal clear, protected waters offer wonderful snorkelling, sailing and swimming. Outside the bay are some of the richest reefs in the world, with an unparalleled variety of hard and soft corals and diverse tropical fish.
