Kirurumu Tented Lodge

Kirurumu Tented Lodge is a permanent tented camp, set on the Gregorian  escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. It enjoys views over Lake Manyara, the Rift floor and Mount Losimingori. Behind the camp the Ngorongoro Highlands rise to form the gateway to the famous Ngorongoro Crater and finally to the Serengeti itself. The camp is about 15 minutes from Lake Manyara airstrip and about 2.5 hours drive from Arusha.  Within 20 minutes you can be in Lake Manyara National Park and within 40 minutes at the Ngorongoro Gate or Tarangire National Park.

There are 20 twin/double tents, each raised on a wooden platform with a private deck in front. All room have private facilities with water heated by solar panels. Care has been taken with the landscaping of the vegetation, leaving the surrounding area to remain as natural as possible.

The dining room is open sided and meals served here are excellent in quality.  Fresh fruit and produce feature regularly on the menu and vegetables and herbs from the Lodge’s own organic garden are widely used. The Terrace bar offers superb views of the Rift Valley and you can enjoy a sundowner here in the evening.

Botannical walks through the surrounding bush can be taken, in the company of Maasi guides. The bird life around the camp is excellent and will excite even the most hardened bird watcher.  A kaleidoscope of different species can be found in the area, including flocks of flamingos.

Although small, Lake Manyara National Park has a lot to offer the visitor in the way of game viewing. It is a sanctuary to hippo, giraffe, impala, zebra and cape buffalo.   You are also likely to see elephants, baboons and vervet monkeys, bushbuck and common waterbuck.
