Kisampa Bush Retreat

Situated to the northeast of Dar Es Salaam, on a hilltop offering views of the plains beneath, is Kisampa Bush Retreat. This private sanctuary adjoins the coastal park of Saadani in eastern Tanzania, and is a mixture of private community and conservation sanctuary. It can be reached by light aircraft to the Matipwilli  airstrip or by road from Dar es Salaam.

This eco-friendly lodge, whilst simplistic, is also very comfortable. There are just 6 thatched bungalows, each furnished with a hand crafted bed and double hammock with views of the surrounding plains. A private open air bathroom with a bush shower hanging from a tree branch completes this unique room. Hot water is delivered
at your request – you just need to ask!

Families are encouraged here and can be accommodated with their parents or nearby in separate ‘star gazer’ tents.

There is a communal bungalow with a well stocked reference library and relaxing sofas for guests use.

Breakfast and lunch are served in the open air pavilion or taken as picnics on a longer game drive. Evening meals begin with a drink around the open fire, before eating under the stars – weather permitting! Food such as locally produced honey, freshly baked bread and salads are widely used and seafood from the nearby ocean makes a regular appearance. Vegetarian diets are also catered for.

Kisampa supports the local community wherever possible, with fundraising for local schools and medical facilities.
