Mnemba

Mnemba is a privately owned island within a marine reserve. There are four different and distinct habitats on this tiny island. It rather famous inhabitant is the green turtle, now protected. A monitoring project has been in place since 1996.

Parts of the island are covered by a native evergreen similar to the Australasia Casuarinas; the green turtles have taken refuge in these areas.

The lack of any form of amenity is what makes Mnemba such an idyllic setting. However with only one option for accommodation, which comes with a high price tag attached, it is not for everybody; please see our lodges section for Mnemba Island Lodge.
