Arumeru River Lodge

Arumeru River Lodge was built on the site of an old coffee farm. The lodge is spread over 12 acres of natural bush and aims to offer guests comfortable accommodation, personalised service and good international and local African cuisine.

Arumeru River Lodge is situated 700m south of the main Arusha – Moshi road, just a 35 minutes drive from Kilimanjaro International Airport and 15 minutes away from the town of Arusha.

The 21 spacious and comfortable twin/double rooms are set in ten red clad chalets in the gardens; all have an en-suite bathroom and a veranda. The rooms are designed and decorated in harmony with the main building where the accent is on traditional eco-friendly African architecture.

The lounge, restaurant and bar areas are found in the main reception building, together with a boutique/curio shop. The lounge boasts a wonderful large fireplace – the ideal place to relax in the evenings.

The main restaurant has fantastic views over Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro and there is an outdoor terraced restaurant as well. International and African cuisine is served in the restaurants in both buffet and a la carte form. Light lunches and a snack menu are served on the terrace and in the pool area during the day.

Arumeru River Lodge’s landscaped grounds have a large solar heated swimming pool with sunshades, sun beds and changing rooms. There is a jogging trail around the grounds if you are feeling energetic. Internet/fax/telephone facilities are available for guests.

We really enjoyed our time at Arumeru. Its location close to Arusha and Kilimanjaro made for a convenient break at the start and end of our trip (one overnight and one day room). We received a warm welcome on both occasions, with a particularly nice welcome drink (rooibos, ginger and honey). After the overnight journey, we wanted somewhere to both relax and stretch our legs. So Arumeru was perfect, with its grounds (plenty of resident dik-diks), swimming pool and optional excursions. We booked on the 2.5 hour forest walk in the afternoon which was good fun and reasonably priced – we even got to see colobus monkeys. The food was excellent and varied, with some original touches. The fresh coffee was particularly good. Prices were very reasonable if you had to pay – much cheaper than the UK. Our rooms, on both occasions, were simple and comfortable – just what we wanted. The staff were extremely chatty, helpful and accommodating. The little shop was also a bonus. We didn’t get to see Kilimanjaro while there as it was too hazy. We would be very happy to go back to Arumeru on any future trip.
