Arusha Hotel

The Arusha hotel was first built in 1894 before being purchased in 1927 by an American coffee farmer. It has played a leading role in Tanzania’s history and it is thought that Arusha Town grew up around the hotel. Many travellers taking the ‘Cairo to the Cape’ route have stayed at the Arusha Hotel.

The Arusha Hotel is set in tropical gardens, the 86 rooms comprise 57 standard rooms, 25 deluxe rooms and 4 suites. Each room has air conditioning, mosquito nets, tea and coffee facilities, a mini bar and en suite facilities. The rooms have views over Mount Meru, the gardens or the swimming pool.

The gardens are beautifully landscaped, with lawns, trees, exotic plants and a many species of birdlife. The head gardener is always happy to take you on a tour of the gardens should you like to know more about the planting. There are labyrinths of paths leading through the grounds towards the lower garden levels, where private parties or functions can be held by candlelight. Also situated in the grounds is a small heated swimming pool where you can cool off and relax.

The Msumbi Coffee Shop and lounge are situated next to one another, whilst the curio shop offers a selection of locally made crafts as well as sweets. The only casino in Arusha is also situated here and offers a wide range of gaming tables and slot machines.

Golf is also available just 5 minutes away at the Arusha Gymkhana Club, where a 9 hole golf course with pro, caddies and clubs are all available for hire.
