Fumba Beach Lodge

Fumba Beach Lodge is situated in the south of Zanzibar, in the Menai Bay Conservation Area, which was set up in 1998. The project was designed to teach villagers the importance of protecting their natural heritage and show how Eco-tourism could survive without damaging the environment. It boasts over 40 acres of grounds protected by the WWF as an area of outstanding natural beauty. It has an impressive 2 kilometres of private beach containing 3 sandy coves.

The accommodation is set in white washed cottages in well maintained tropical gardens. There are three room types: The Baobab Suites, deluxe and garden rooms. The Baobab Suites are all ocean front whilst the garden rooms are dotted around the gardens. The deluxe rooms have a sea view.

All the rooms at Fumba Beach Lodge are large with plenty of space whilst three of the cottages have interconnecting doors which make them a fantastic option for families. The Suite Rooms have an upstairs seating area with scatter cushions in bright vibrant colours and sweeping views over the Indian Ocean. The Baobab Suites occupy a private stretch of beach and are very special, with an outside bathroom built on wooden decking on stilts around one of the many old Baobab trees with a large stone bath and open air shower.

The main bar and dining areas are housed under a large thatched roof with open sides. Meals are usually taken on the stone terrace under umbrellas. The terrace leads to an infinity pool surrounded by sun loungers and umbrellas as well as the dhow bar, partly constructed from an old Zanzibari dhow.

There is also a Spa, ideal for resting after the bumpy roads and a Jacuzzi situated in the lea of a Baobab tree, another ideal place to relax.

‘Safari Blue’, the accredited Dive Centre at Fumba, can arrange snorkel trips, exploratory sailing trips and dives to nearby islands and the lagoon for the more active guest. Due to its location only 30 minutes outside Stone Town, Fumba Beach Lodge is perfect for those seeking a relaxing beach holiday with easy access to the historic past of the island.
