Grumeti Hills

Grumeti Hills is set in the Grumeti Game Reserve, a protected area along the Serengeti. Animals are present here throughout the year attracted by the Grumeti River. It is a great place to see the migration which stays in this area for a long time and is best seen between August and November.

Grumeti Hills is situated in a secluded location and built on the highest hill in the area affording breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

The lodge has 16 comfortable tents which include a beautiful living space with wooden floors and an integrated bathroom.

Grumeti Hills has good environmental credentials – 24 hour electricity and water being supplied by solar power. The main stone buildings integrate well into the surrounding rocks and landscape.

For relaxation, there is a swimming pool with panoramic views of the Serengeti plains.

Walking safaris, 4×4 safaris, night time game drives and cultural tours are all available at Grumeti Hills.

Our room was amazing – a cross between a luxury hotel and a tent – spacious and well furnished, with a private terrace giving open views over the plains below. As the lodge is spaced out over the ridge and hillside, it gave the opportunity for walking around the grounds freely which was welcome after a few nights at bush camps where movement was more restricted. It was great to be able to see the sunrise from one side of the site and sunset from the other. The pool provided a pleasant area for relaxation, but being deep, the water was pretty cold. Food was excellent. A bonus at Grumeti was the plentiful supply of interesting books, especially the excellent publications by MKSC. Lodge activities worked very well on the first day, with a guided walk, bush lunch and night safari. Day 2, in contrast, was disorganised. Overall atmosphere felt a bit more impersonal, though individually, staff provided the typical hospitality and attentiveness.
