Jongomero Camp is based on the edge of the Jongomero River which dries up completely during the dry season – in fact it becomes a walkway for the many animals, including elephant, in their search for water. The 8 tents are built on raised platforms along the river bed and you can often see this animal procession from your veranda! The tents are large and spacious with polished wooden floors and an ensuite bathroom with flushing toilet and hot showers.
The lounge and dining areas are situated under a thatched roof structure with wooden floors covered with luxurious rugs. The furniture and art is traditionally African in feel, helping the camp to retain its down to earth ‘safari adventure’ feel.
The food at Jongomero is fresh, tasty and varied. Breakfast consists of cereal, fruit, yoghurt and a cooked breakfast whilst lunch offers a choice of salads, pasta and quiche. Dinner is a more formal 3 course meal. There is the opportunity to eat both inside and outside should you choose.
The bar area is made from reclaimed Dhow wood, and just off of this area is a small terrace leading down to a shaded area with views to the river.
The game drives at Jongomero Camp are taken in 4 x 4 vehicles and take place at times to suit the guests. It is also possible to take a picnic with you to enjoy an al fresco lunch. You should see large game to include elephant, zebra and lion so have your camera ready!
