Selous Safari Camp

Selous Safari Camp is situated within an open palm forest on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, a massive lake adjoining the Great Rufiji River in one of the most photogenic areas of Selous Game Reserve. It offers a small and intimate place to stay in Selous.

Selous Safari Camp comprises of 2 halves, north and south with 13 tents in total. North camp has 6 tents and South camp has 7 tents. Each tent is on a raised timber platform on the shores of the lake and is luxuriously appointed. There are ceiling fans above the king size beds. The en suite bathrooms have flush toilets and open air showers and there is a veranda on either side of the tent, offering guests a view of the surrounding bush, the sunrise and sunset.

Each section has its own swimming pool, well stocked bar and dining area with a separate kitchen. There is no need to move between the 2 halves of the camp as each has its own host, game viewing vehicles, jetty for boat trips and safari guides.

The camp is set in a prime position for viewing the game both on and off the lake. There are no fences around the camp and so the animals are free to wander around, mainly at night and often do! Hippos and elephants sometimes move through the camp and the sound of whooping hyenas can often be heard.

The game drives at Selous Safari Camp are taken in 4×4 open vehicles with expertly trained guides who are happy to share their wealth of knowledge with guests. Boat safaris are taken in metal boats with an outboard motor and a covered canopy. This is the best way to view water birds as well as getting close to both hippo and crocodiles safely.

As the Selous is a game reserve and not a national park, you can take a walking safari into the bush. These take place early in the day with an armed guide. You are most likely to see elephant on these walks and the experience offers a new dimension to your safari experience.
