Tarangire River Camp consists of 21 spacious timber and canvas tents set on elevated platforms overlooking the river bank. Each tent has a bed with mosquito net, a simple writing desk and wooden trunk. The en suite facilities include a flushing toilet and shower. On the private veranda is a daybed from where you can see the surrounding forest of baobab trees and acacia groves. Some tents have views of the river which in the dry season becomes a dramatic sand bed.
The main lodge area, set on an elevated platform, has a grass thatched roof and houses the lounge, dining area and coffee bar. The lounge area is open air and is set on one side of the main area with the dining room on the other, linked by a short set of stairs. There are excellent views of the river bank and forest from the viewing deck and fire pit which is set in front of the main lodge area. There is a second viewing area accessed by a staircase which takes you above ceiling height.
There is a small gift shop situated under the elevated dining platform selling Maasai arts and crafts.
Whilst during the wet season the river flows with an ample water supply, during the dry season you can tell the number of animals traversing the dry river bed by the many paw and hoof prints left behind.
